Driving Lessons in Haringey: A Borough Guide — Wood Green, Tottenham and the West of the Borough
Borough-wide driving lessons in Haringey with door-to-door pickup. Wood Green & Tottenham test centres, Muswell Hill, Crouch End covered.

Haringey is not one place, and this guide does not pretend otherwise. It is a borough that runs from Highgate and Muswell Hill on the high ground in the west, through Crouch End, Hornsey and Wood Green, to Tottenham and Seven Sisters on the Lea side in the east — and it is unusual in London for having two practical test centres inside its own borders. If you are looking for driving lessons in Haringey, your first decision is which half of the borough you are really learning in, because a learner in Crouch End and a learner in Tottenham Hale face different hills, different high roads and, usually, different test centres.
Learn and Drive covers the whole borough: our instructors offer door-to-door pickup, so your lesson starts at your home, work or college — no travelling to a meeting point. Exact pickup for your postcode is confirmed when you book, whether you are in Muswell Hill, Crouch End, Alexandra Park, Hornsey, Wood Green, Harringay, Seven Sisters, Tottenham or Highgate. We offer manual and automatic lessons, female instructors are available, and intensive courses are available for learners working to a deadline. This borough guide complements our separate district guides to Wood Green and Tottenham, which cover those centres street by street — here we cover the borough as a whole, and the western districts they do not.
Haringey's two test centres — both inside the borough
Haringey learners are better served than most Londoners: both of the borough's centres are genuinely local, about two miles apart, and choosing between them should be about where you have practised, not about chasing a percentage.
Wood Green (London) driving test centre is at Wood Green Crown Court, Woodhall House, Lordship Lane, Wood Green, London, N22 5LF. That address is consistent across DVSA-derived listings and centre directories. It sits directly in front of the crown court on Lordship Lane, a short walk from Wood Green station, with limited parking — do not arrive very early and block the forecourt. One trap to avoid: at least one route site lists the centre at the Civic Centre on High Road, N22 8LE. The DVSA-derived listings give the Lordship Lane crown court site; treat the Civic Centre address as wrong and your booking confirmation as definitive. The pass rate at Wood Green (London) is 46.81% (passdrivingtest.co.uk, from DVSA data), at one of the highest-volume centres in the country. Our full guide to driving lessons in Wood Green covers its North Circular approaches, bus lanes and retail-park junctions in detail.
Tottenham driving test centre is at the Annex Building, Selby Centre, Selby Road, Tottenham, London, N17 8JL. That address is consistent across DVSA-derived listings and centre directories. It sits just off White Hart Lane in a community centre complex — easy to miss on a first visit, so do a familiarisation run before test week. The pass rate at Tottenham is 48.88% (passdrivingtest.co.uk, from DVSA data). Our full guide to driving lessons in Tottenham covers the A10, the High Road bus lanes and the North Circular approaches from the east side.
Read those two figures honestly. The pass rate at Tottenham is 48.88% (passdrivingtest.co.uk, from DVSA data) and the pass rate at Wood Green (London) is 46.81% (passdrivingtest.co.uk, from DVSA data) — a gap of about two points between two busy inner-London centres is not a strategy. Western Haringey learners, in Muswell Hill, Crouch End and Alexandra Park, are usually closer in practice terms to Wood Green via Hornsey and Lordship Lane; eastern learners, in Tottenham, Seven Sisters and South Tottenham, are usually closer to the Selby Centre. Book the centre whose roads your lessons can realistically cover every week.
You must have passed your theory test before booking a practical. Nationally the theory test costs £23 and the practical costs £62 on a weekday or £75 for evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Waits are still long nationally — the National Audit Office reported an average wait of around 22 weeks in September 2025 — so talk to your instructor about booking early. Check your booking confirmation for the definitive address for your date.
The local driving that matters in Haringey — the west the district guides do not cover
The western half of Haringey is hill country by London standards, and it teaches skills the eastern half cannot. Muswell Hill Broadway sits on the ridge: the climb up Muswell Hill itself, Colney Hatch Lane, Alexandra Park Road and the Broadway roundabout, where buses, parked cars and pedestrians compress into a small, busy circus, define local learning. Hill starts here are not box-ticking — in a manual car, a confident start on the Muswell Hill gradient in traffic is a genuine milestone; in an automatic it is about holding position and judging gaps on a slope. The residential grid between Muswell Hill and Alexandra Park gives quieter but still hilly practice, with Alexandra Palace event days transforming the park roads completely.
Crouch End and Hornsey teach a different lesson: the Crouch End Broadway and Hornsey High Street corridors and Tottenham Lane, where bus routes, parked cars and side-road traffic meet on roads never built for their current volume. Priory Road towards Alexandra Park and the junctions around Hornsey and Turnpike Lane stations reward early lane choice and patience. Much of this side of the borough is 20mph, and the speed changes between 20mph side streets and the faster A-roads — Archway Road (A1) on the Highgate edge, Green Lanes (A105) through Harringay, and Lordship Lane itself — are where marks are quietly lost.
East of that, the borough flattens and busies: Harringay's ladder streets, Seven Sisters Road and West Green Road add dense urban driving, while the Lea side around Tottenham Hale is changing fast with new housing and construction traffic. A borough programme needs to cover your test centre's roads thoroughly, plus the hill work if you live in the west — a learner who has only driven the flat east will find Muswell Hill a shock, and one who has only driven the west will find Wood Green's bus lanes and the North Circular a bigger one.
Timing matters across the borough. School traffic reshapes Crouch End and Muswell Hill twice a day, Alexandra Palace event days reshape them again, and the A10, Green Lanes and Lordship Lane slow heavily in both peaks. Practise in those conditions before test day.
Practising around Haringey between lessons
Private practice with a legally qualified supervising driver, in a car insured for you and displaying L plates, works best in Haringey when you split it by borough half, the way your lessons should be split.
In the west, start on the Muswell Hill and Alexandra Park residential grids for hill starts, meeting traffic and manoeuvres in real spaces, then build to Alexandra Park Road, Colney Hatch Lane and the Broadway roundabout at progressively busier times. Add Crouch End Broadway, Tottenham Lane and Priory Road, and practise the run from the west of the borough to Lordship Lane until reaching the Wood Green centre feels routine rather than a journey.
In the east, use the Tottenham and Seven Sisters grids for bus lane discipline on the High Road, A10 approaches and estate manoeuvres, following the programme in our Tottenham guide. Whichever half you are in, include at least some driving in the other half before you pass — you will drive the whole borough for years afterwards, hills included. Between drives, use our free theory practice — 6,500+ questions, DVSA-format mock tests, 3D hazard perception practice and 178 road signs. The DVSA no longer publishes official test routes, so treat any route list as a guide to road types, not a promise.
Choosing an instructor in Haringey
When you compare driving instructors in Haringey, check the badge in the windscreen. A green badge means a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI). A pink badge means a trainee Potential Driving Instructor (PDI), teaching legally while still qualifying under supervision. Knowing which you have booked helps you judge experience fairly.
Ask which centre the programme is built around — Wood Green or Tottenham — and whether the instructor works regularly from that centre, not just somewhere in N8 or N17. If you live in Muswell Hill, Crouch End or Alexandra Park, ask specifically about hill work and the run to Lordship Lane; if you live in Tottenham or Seven Sisters, ask about the A10, the High Road bus lanes and the Selby Centre programme. Ask about manual and automatic, female instructors if you would prefer one, and pickup from your exact address. Our guide to driving schools near me explains the rest of the checklist — lesson structure, progress tracking, mock tests and cancellation terms.
A proper mock should start from your actual centre and include its hardest pattern: the North Circular approaches for Wood Green, or the A10 and High Road combination for Tottenham, plus an estate manoeuvre, marked strictly. Ignore any guaranteed-pass promise.

Frequently asked questions
How many test centres are there in Haringey?
Two, both inside the borough: Wood Green, at Wood Green Crown Court, Lordship Lane, N22 5LF, and Tottenham, at the Annex Building, Selby Centre, Selby Road, N17 8JL. Western Haringey learners usually find Wood Green the more practical programme; eastern learners usually use Tottenham.
What are the pass rates at Haringey's centres?
The pass rate at Wood Green (London) is 46.81% (passdrivingtest.co.uk, from DVSA data). The pass rate at Tottenham is 48.88% (passdrivingtest.co.uk, from DVSA data). The gap is small — familiarity with your centre's roads matters far more than the two points between them.
I live in Muswell Hill or Crouch End — which centre should I choose?
Usually Wood Green, via Hornsey and Lordship Lane, with lessons including proper hill work on the Muswell Hill approaches as well as the centre's bus lanes and North Circular approaches. Weekly practice geography matters more than map distance alone.
Is the Wood Green test centre at the Civic Centre on High Road?
No. DVSA-derived listings place it at Wood Green Crown Court, Woodhall House, Lordship Lane, N22 5LF, in front of the crown court. The Civic Centre, High Road address printed by at least one route site does not match those listings — check your booking confirmation.
Can I learn in an automatic in Haringey?
Yes. We offer manual and automatic lessons across Haringey. An automatic pass gives an automatic-only licence, while a manual pass covers both — worth weighing if Muswell Hill hill starts are part of your decision.
How much do driving lessons in Haringey cost?
See our prices page for current packages and confirm for your postcode when you book. We do not publish a fixed Haringey per-hour price here; as context, our Manchester lessons start from £35 per hour. The theory test is £23 and the practical is £62 on a weekday or £75 at evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
