Moving off from the kerb

A parked car can hide people, bikes and traffic from view. This lesson gives you space to practise a deliberate sequence: get settled, prepare the car, check the mirrors and blind spots, signal when it helps others, then make one final observation before moving.

The aim is not to rush through a checklist. Each observation should answer a question about what may have changed around the car. If the gap is no longer safe, wait and check again. On a real road, follow your instructor’s direction and only move when it is safe.

What to practise

  • Use mirrors and a direct blind-spot check before moving.
  • Choose whether a signal would help another road user.
  • Pause and reassess if a person, cyclist or vehicle changes the gap.
