Dual carriageway · joining, cruising and leaving
A dual carriageway has separate carriageways divided by a central reservation. This lesson focuses on the transitions: matching your plan to the joining lane, settling into an appropriate lane, then preparing for an exit without a sudden change of direction.
Higher speeds leave less time to react, so build a broad view ahead and allow space. Use signs to plan early and follow the road markings. The practice scene is a learning aid only; it is not a substitute for an instructor, a real-road lesson or a judgement that a learner is ready for this road.
What to practise
- Read signs and lane markings early when joining or leaving.
- Keep a safe following distance and maintain awareness of faster traffic.
- Plan lane changes in good time and only move when it is safe.
